Year 3-  Information for Autumn Term 2020

Dear Parents,

I hope that you have all had an enjoyable and relaxing summer holiday- I’m sure that you will all be eager for your children to get back to school and some kind of ‘normality.’ I am very much looking forward to working with your children throughout this year and find it hard to believe that this September marks the start of my 32nd year as a teacher (and most definitely the strangest start to any year so far!) I have many exciting activities planned to keep all your children busy and, of course, working hard! This year in Year 3 the following staff members will be working with your children:

  • Mrs George- Monday and Tuesday all day, Wednesday (morning only) and Thursday all day (Friday is my day off!)
  • Mrs Irving- Friday all day (Maths, English grammar, Science and RE.)
  • Mrs Agnew (TA)
  • Miss Millburn (ICT) - Monday afternoon (half the class at a time for a 45 minute lesson.)
  • Mr Dawson (PE coach) - Wednesday afternoon.

Please rest assured that we are taking all possible measures in school to ensure that everything is as safe as it can be for all children. As you will be aware, to avoid large groups meeting within school, children will remain in their class ‘bubble’ throughout the day. Inside the classroom, following government guidelines, children will be seated at desks in rows, all facing forward. Each child will have their own pencil case filled with all the necessary stationery (supplied by school) and no sharing of equipment will be allowed. This will feel very strange and different for the children (and teachers!) but I’m sure that we will all quickly adapt and get used to the new way of working!

All children should come to school in PE kit each Wednesday when they will be coached by our PE coach, Mr Dawson- kit required is as follows: navy shorts, white t shirt, tracksuit bottoms/top and trainers. Please note that no items of jewellery should be worn to school- this includes any kind of watch or fitbit; any child whose hair is longer than shoulder length should also have it tied back. PE will start on the first day of term so please send your child to school in their PE kit on Wednesday.

Now that your child is in the juniors, he/she will not receive a fruit or veg snack at playtime. However, if you would like to send your child with an item of fruit or veg to have as a playtime snack that is absolutely fine- they are often quite hungry by 10.30am! Your child should also bring a water bottle to school each Monday- the bottle will be kept in school until Friday when it will be brought home for washing. Children have access to their water whenever they need it throughout the day and can re-fill as and when required.

Homework will be set each Monday (this will be displayed on the Year 3 page on the school website under the heading ‘Homework- Autumn Term') and will be due to be completed by the following Monday- activities each evening should take no more than 20 minutes. The homework will reinforce work done in class during the week and will include: Spellings, Reading, English and Maths using Education City and MyMaths or be of a research nature. I do not intend to print off any homework; however, if you need a hard copy, please let me know and I will print it off for you.  Homework will start in the second week of term on Monday 7th September.

Due to new restrictions, reading books will be sent home on a Monday and must be kept at home until Friday when your child should return their book to school for changing; all books will then be collected in a box and left until Monday morning to allow for 72 hours to pass before handing out again. Please send your child’s reading folder/books back to school on the first day of term so that we can get them changed and ready to hand back out on Monday 7th September.

Next June will hopefully see us returning to Windermere for our Year 3 residential trip for 3days/2nights. Please see the Year 3 website page ‘Go wild in Windermere 2021’ for more information including cost and itinerary. I have also left the 2019 page on the website page so that you can see what we got up to! The trip itinerary will remain the same for 2021 but will clearly only take place if it is safe to do so. Please do not send any money into school for the time being- I will let you know when we need payment.

It is really important that your child only brings limited items into school from home. The following are the only items that should come from home: Coat, lunchbox, fruit/veg snack, water bottle, reading folder (Friday only.) Unfortunately, we can’t have any items for show and tell or cakes/sweets that are often brought in to give out as birthday treats. If your child has something they would like to show the class, then please email a photo or send via ClassDojo.

I hope that this newsletter has provided you with all the information that you need for now, but please do not hesitate to contact me by email if you have any other queries at: sgeorge@stbeesvillage.cumbria.sch.uk  or via the message section on ClassDojo- I do check my email frequently during the day and will get back to you as quickly as possible!

Finally, the Year 3 page on the school website is all updated and ready for Autumn term so please have a look!  I will update it on a regular basis and you will find information about what is going on in class as well as lots of photographs of your little darlings!

Yours sincerely,

Sarah George
