Curriculum Support

Throughout the school some of our children experience difficulty with their learning. Through various sources, we are often able to obtain special funding to help the children to come to terms with their problems. The funding enables us to employ extra members of staff who are specially trained to help the children in their care overcome the difficulties they are experiencing with different aspects of their learning. Children may be withdrawn individually or in small groups when involved in specialised learning programmes or may be supported within the classroom. If parents have any queries regarding this matter, please contact the child’s class teacher or our SENDCO [Special Educational Needs and Disabilities coordinator], Mrs Hansen.

 Special Educational Needs

The school has a policy for children with Special Educational Needs that is available free to all parents on request. We endeavor to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all the children in our care.  Some children may have special educational needs during their time in the school and in order to help them overcome these difficulties the school has set in place certain resources to help them access the curriculum. These measures ensure that the special needs of children are identified, assessed and provided for.  The majority of the work is carried out by the SENDCO, Mrs Hansen and the Headteacher, Mrs E Sharp, who, pay due regard to the Code of Practice when carrying out these duties.  Children who need extra help in certain subjects are catered for either individually or in small groups.  Quiet working periods are provided for children with the support of special needs staff. The School does its best to secure the necessary provision for any pupil identified as having special educational needs and makes sure that all teachers in the school are aware of the importance of providing for these children.  If there is concern about any child, teachers will consult parents immediately and together decide on the best approach. Sometimes help and support is given by outside agencies, such as Educational Psychologists.
