Autumn Term 2017 Curriculum
The following areas will be covered:
Place value up to 4 digits.
To count in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1,000.
Estimate and calculate mentally.
To round up and down to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000.
Shape and data.
Multiplication and division.
Addition and subtraction
We will be having weekly SPAG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar) and handwriting lessons. In addition to this we will also be conducting guided reading or an associated activity each day.
We will also cover:
Non-fiction Texts including: Instructions and explanations, Information texts and Poetry.
Fiction Texts - Stories in a familiar setting and imaginative stories.
States of Matter – We will be developing an understanding of the properties of materials, what happens when they are exposed to different temperatures and the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
Electricity – We will be learning how to build electrical circuits, name and identifying its basic parts as well as recognise some common conductors and insulators, and associate metals with being good conductors.
How and why is my local area changing? –
As part of this we will be:
• Using maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe
• Using the eight points of a compass, four and six-figure grid references, symbols and key
(including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build their knowledge of the United
Kingdom and the wider world.
• Using fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in
the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and
