St Bees Village Primary School

Headteacher: Mrs Emma Sharp

Welcome to Year 2!

I thought it might be useful to let you know a few routines and details about Year 2.

Our PE lessons will be on a  Wednesday and Friday afternoon, so please ensure that your child has their PE kit on these days. It would be helpful if you could send in some trainers, joggers and hoodie or jacket in your child’s PE kit so that we can do PE lessons outside when the weather is suitable.

I will be sending a homework sheet home every Monday. Children should bring back their homework sheets on the following Monday, signed and with a comment if you wish.  The homework will be largely internet based, as prescribed in our school’s homework policy.  The homework will be designed to consolidate the work that we have covered in class each week. I also set project based homework, which the children love and find very interesting! The children are then able to present their projects to the whole class once finished.

I plan to do some of our Science and art work at Forest School this year. Forest School is ideal for looking at animals and habitats and observational paintings and drawings as well as team building and self esteem building activities. Forest School will usually be on a Friday afternoon but may occasionally be on a different morning as I like to do some writing work there. We walk to Forest School on High House Road and with such a large class I may occasionally need parents to help. I will inform you in advance on homework sheets of when we plan to go to Forest School and if I need some help, of which I would be very grateful.

Finally, if you have any questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can call into the office and make an appointment to speak to me, or you can phone me at school or email me at  I would like us to work together to create a great final year in the infants for your child!!

Thank you

Mrs L Storey.
